This program is brought to you by John Plashal Photo and Fred Schneider Photography. The beautiful Belmead on the James occupies approximately 2300 acres of land that is extremely rich in history and powerful in visuals. Join us on June 11th to tour this sacred land and its magical history from the comfort of a passenger seat in a Kawasaki All Terrain Vehicle. Over twenty different locations will be visited over the course of four hours, several of which are inaccesible on other tours and all of which will be accompanied by fascinating historical narration and vintage images of yesteryear. The tour will include the history of the occupation of Belmead by the Cocke family, its acquisition by the Drexels and the 72 years that it served as the location of two highly historical African-American schools.
The abandoned mansion on the property that was originally designed in 1845 for an eventual Civil War Brigadier General will be the central hub for our afternoon of adventure and education. This gothic revival architectural masterpiece that later served as the centerpiece for the education of over 10,000 African Americans will be the beginning and ending point of our tour, which will also include visits to over 20 different locations on the sprawling property.
A complimentary souvenir gift bag will be provided to each guest on the tour.
